RANT !!!!!

I've been inundated lately with stories of abused animals and I am angry and frustrated. Some may have noticed that I've been posting links on my facebook page. There was a story on Fark.com about a Pug Rescue organization in Kentucky that has had to stop taking in anymore incoming Pugs because they barely have the funds to take care of the pugs they currently care for. Even though they have foster parents for the pugs, the rescue pays for their medical needs and food.

There were two stories on their main page describing how they found Lazarus and Rudy. Lazarus was found in someones driveway and thought to be dead. He was covered in fleas and was so dirty that you couldn't even tell what color he was. He is Fawn. Same as mine. He was starved to the brink of death...a skeletin with a filthy fur coat. No one knows what Lazarus had suffered prior to being found. Thanks to this rescue and his foster mom, he is now at his ideal weight of 22 lbs and he's on his way to recovering. He is being treated for heartworm but is expected to make a full recovery. In the shape he was in... a regular shelter probably would have simply put him down.

Rudy was found by a woman who, in the middle of a snow storm with winds whipping around at 30-40 mph, was informed by a neighbor that there was a dog on her roof. Someone PUT this poor little dog on her roof. He was freezing and terrified with a rope around his neck that had rubbed it raw. He was less than 6 months old. He is still terrified to go out in the snow and cold, and only wants to cuddle with his foster mom where he feels safe.

My heart breaks at the thought of animals suffering so much. But I feel angry that there are people who intentionally hurt animals. And I don't feel that that it has anything to do with whether you are an "animal person" or not. It comes down to whether a person has any respect for life in general. Like the 18 yr old who, with his friends, stole and beat to death a 3 month old alpaca. He got 14 months in jail. Really? For violently beating to DEATH a helpless animal??

I'm disgusted. It makes me angry because it brings out the "evil" in ME...where I can only hope that these people meet the same punishment as they themselves inflict on these animals.
